Biography: Florence Sophia is a Canadian Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athlete and certified Yoga instructor. Florence Sophia started her athletic journey at the age of 6 as a gymnast. Throughout her childhood she practiced sports in various discipline such as tennis, dance, and martial arts. She completed the Scotiabank Waterfront half marathon and the RBC 15K race for the kids. She has practiced yoga for the past twelve years and has dedicated her time and passion to Jiu Jitsu for the last two years. She won a gold medal at a local BJJ tournament in 2016, bronze at the Ascension tournament early this year and has her eyes set on winning additional tournaments in 2018. When she looks back to her childhood, she was inspired by many “world-class” athletes. Her attributes include being highly competitive. She is determined and passionate. She has exceptional perseverance and strives to push her limits with challenging trainings and meditation. Her qualities carry over in her professional experience. Florence is a Portfolio Advisor for the online advisory business RBC is building in Canada. She has over 7 years of experience in Finance and has been with RBC since 2010. Florence started her career in the hospitality industry and was trained for over 7 years by some of the world’s most recognizable 5-star hotels in the key drivers of an exceptional client experience. Always interested in giving back to the community, she has been involved in volunteering on various boards and committees. Amongst others, she led part of the governance committee and board within Epilepsy Ontario. She also lead the Toronto chapter chair and mentorship of the Women in Leadership (WIL) Foundation. She aspires to be a role model to women and younger generation by striving to achieve greatness in her athletic and professional career.
